Sergio Romero

Sergio Romero has completed a transfer to Serie A side Venezia after leaving Manchester United at the end of the previous season. The player was an extremely reliable number 2 during his tenure at Old Trafford, and mainly served as backup for David De Gea.

Romero made 61 appearances for Manchester United and kept 39 clean sheets across all competitions. He was also a part of the Argentina national team that made it to the finals of the 2014 World Cup, and is the most capped Argentina goalkeeper of all time, having made his most recent appearance for them in 2018.

The 34-year-old has joined Venezia on a free transfer, and could be in contention for an automatic starting place in the team. He is among the best number 2s in the world, and can now earn a chance to become the first choice.

The player came through the Racing Club academy in his native Argentina and has also featured for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. From November 2008 to February 2009, the goalkeeper went 950 minutes without conceding a goal and that resulted in AZ Alkmaar eventually lifting the Eredivisie trophy.

Romero has had previous experience of Italian football having played with Sampdoria in the past, and can be counted upon to adapt quickly to the playing style in the country. Venezia take on Fiorentina in their next Serie A game on Monday and we might see Romero make his debut for the new club then.
