The USWNT has won their first piece of gold under new manager Emma Hayes, finishing in the gold medal position at the Paris Olympics 2024. They defeated Brazil 1-0 in the final to achieve the feat, signalling a return to their best.
The game also proved to be the end of an era as Brazil legend Marta played her last game for the national team. She had been sent off in the group stage after seeing a straight red for a foul on Spain’s Olga Carmona. But, her suspension ended heading into the finals, and she can call herself a silver medalist in her final game for the Selecao.

The USA is the most successful women’s football team at the Olympics, having won the inaugural edition of the competition in 1996. They also defeated Brazil in 2008 to win the gold medal, and have now repeated the feat 12 years later, having last achieved the feat in 2012.
Mallory Swanson scored the only goal of the game, and it was enough to seal the gold medal for the USA in the final. She scored on her 100th appearance for the national team in what proved to be a decisive goal.
Brazil endured a physical battle with several injuries, and fought till the end. But, they just weren’t able to find the back of the net and had to settle for the silver medal this time around.
