Brazil are out of Copa America 2024, with Uruguay defeating the Selecao 4-2 on penalties. The two teams could not be separated in 90 minutes, with the scoreline ending 0-0.
Due to the modified rules in the tournament, the game went directly to penalties with no extra time. Eder Militao’s penalty was saved by Sergio Rochet, while Douglas Luiz’s effort hit the post from the spot.

La Celeste will likely be without Ronaldo Araujo for their semifinal game, as the central defender was taken off following the half-hour mark due to an injury. The Barcelona centre-back was in tears as he was taken off, which is potentially another blow for the Spanish side after the knee injury to Pedri in Spain’s game against Germany.
The game was always set to be decided on fine margins, and the decision was ultimately made on penalties. Brazil haven’t been at their best for a while, and have been eliminated from a major tournament once again on penalties, after losing to Croatia in the 2022 World Cup.
The inaugural World Cup winners will face an in-form Colombia in the semifinal of the tournament for a spot in the finals. And Marcelo Bielsa’s men will have a huge task ahead of them, given the momentum Colombia have earned after their 5-0 win over Panama in the quarter finals.
