Concerning the offerings of the AMD Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” SKUs, they represent a refresh of the existing Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” family. AMD prioritizes refreshing the Phoenix APU family, known for its high demand, before introducing more significant upgrades like the Strix Ryzen 8050 series, scheduled for a mid-2024 release.

The Hawk Point APUs will maintain the Zen 4 core architecture and support the FP7/r2 and FP8 platforms, along with compatibility with DDR5/LPDDR5x memory. Additionally, they will feature the RDNA 3 graphics architecture.

The Upcoming AMD Ryzen 8040

The Zen 4 (4nm) Monolithic Design includes up to 8 cores, 12 RDNA 3 Compute Units, and an integrated XDNA Engine. The expected launch for these APUs is in Q1. According to the information shared by Harukaze5719, AMD intends to continue the conventional naming scheme, similar to the Phoenix family, with two segments: H-series and U-series, each having different TDP segments.

While details about these segments are not extensively leaked, the Ryzen 9 8940HS has been observed in action, displaying promising performance in line with expectations for a refresh.

In a previous leak, the codenames Phoenix3 and Phoenix4 were associated with the Ryzen 8040 series. The Ryzen 8040 APUs are anticipated to have a significant impact on the laptop segment, particularly with the “HS-series” variants rumored to offer efficient performance. Moreover, there is excitement about the contribution of Hawk Point APUs to the handheld industry, addressing previous limitations in applicable SKUs for this segment.

The comprehensive SKU list includes various models for different series and usage scenarios, such as Ryzen 9 8940H, Ryzen 7 8840H, Ryzen 5 8640H, Ryzen 7 8840HS, Ryzen 5 8640HS, Ryzen 7 8840U, Ryzen 5 8640U, Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U, and Ryzen 5 PRO 8640U.

The anticipated debut of the AMD Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” APU family is set for CES 2024. Additionally, the upcoming AM5 desktop APU products from AMD, adopting the Ryzen 8000 branding, are expected to be revealed soon. Further details about these upcoming APUs will likely be disclosed as the launch period approaches.
