**[Unfamiliar](https://www.netflix.com/title/)** premiered on **Netflix on February 5, 2026**, and within days, the German six-part espionage thriller has planted itself firmly at #5 in the UK Netflix Top 10. Fans are already calling it “[one of the best spy shows](https://x.com/_sanjaygupta/status/2021080934548898255?s=12)” and “unmissable” — and honestly, once you start episode one, you’ll understand why.

## What Is *Unfamiliar* About?

The story centres on **Meret and Simon Schäfer**, a couple who look every bit like a happy suburban family — until a mysterious call from an injured stranger rips the curtain off their past. Turns out, they’re both former agents of the **[Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND)](https://www.bnd.bund.de/EN/Home/home_node.html)** — Germany’s federal intelligence service — who’ve been quietly running a Berlin safe house called *The Nest* for 16 years.

When figures from their covert past resurface, everything they’ve built — their marriage, their daughter’s future, their peaceful life — is suddenly on the line. The tension doesn’t let up.

## Why You Should Watch It Right Now

This isn’t your standard spy-action spectacle. *Unfamiliar* is slow-burn, character-driven, and genuinely unsettling in the best way. It asks: **what do you do when the life you’ve carefully constructed for years starts to collapse overnight?** The lead performances — especially Susanne Wolff — are magnetic.

If you loved [*Black Doves* on Netflix](https://www.netflix.com/) or [*Dark*](https://www.netflix.com/title/80100172) (also a German Netflix gem), this one belongs at the top of your watchlist.
