Ultimate Table Tennis 2024: Eight Teams Set to Serve Up Excitement in Chennai, Starting August 22
UTT’s Evolution and Expansion
Since its inception in 2017, UTT, promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani under the auspices of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), has been a game-changer for Indian table tennis. This year, the league expands to include eight teams for the first time, offering young Indian paddlers a platform to showcase their skills alongside the world’s elite players. This significant expansion aims to elevate competition standards and nurture emerging talent within the sport.
Strategic Timing and Tribute to Chennai
Niraj Bajaj, co-promoter of UTT, highlights the strategic timing of the expanded league, coinciding with the post-Paris Games period to leverage the Olympic fervor sweeping the nation. “The decision to host the league in Chennai pays tribute to the city’s esteemed sporting heritage, which has produced numerous legendary paddlers. It reinforces our commitment to honoring its illustrious legacy,” he stated.
New Franchises and Rising Popularity
The rising popularity of table tennis in India, bolstered by notable achievements on the international stage, has catalyzed the league’s expansion into new territories. Embracing this momentum, UTT proudly announces the inclusion of two new franchises: the Ahmedabad SG Pipers and the Jaipur Patriots, marking a dynamic new phase commencing with the 2024 edition.
Mission and Recent Achievements
Vita Dani, Chairperson of UTT, emphasized the league’s core mission: “The goal behind UTT’s inception was to elevate the stature of table tennis in India, providing our players with a platform to compete against the world’s best and propel Indian table tennis to new heights. Recent historic victories by Indian players against Chinese opponents and our national teams qualifying for the Olympics underscore this mission.”
Teams and Competition Format
Defending champions Goa Challengers, who triumphed over former champions Chennai Lions last year, will join returning teams Dabang Delhi TTC, U Mumba TT, Puneri Paltan, Bengaluru Smashers, and the two new franchises. Each team will feature a roster of six players, including two foreign players, as they vie for the coveted title this season.
With the addition of eight teams, the competition format has slightly altered. Teams will be divided into two groups of four. Each franchise will compete in five ties during the league stage, facing all other teams within their group once and two randomly selected teams from the opposing group, determined through a draw.

The upcoming season promises to be an exhilarating journey, showcasing the best of Indian and international table tennis talent. Stay tuned for more updates and prepare to witness high-octane matches as UTT 2024 unfolds in Chennai.
