Aleksander Ceferin has commented on the Super League project a year after it was announced, and the UEFA President had some specific people in mind while speaking to Der Spiegel. He also pointed out how ironic it is that the clubs competing in the Champions League this season want to form their own competition in the future.

Here is what Ceferin had to say:

“I would not mind if they left. It is very funny that they want to create a new competition and at the same time want to play the Champions League this season,” Ceferin said. “All three clubs have managers who are simply incompetent. These guys tried to kill football.”

Ceferin then took aim at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, calling him out for bidding €200 million for Kylian Mbappe in the transfer window this summer, after saying that the club would not survive if there was no Super League to give them more money to operate.

“Florentino Perez laments and says the club can only survive with a Super League and then try to sign Kylian Mbappé for €180-million. Financial fair play? In the future, we want to talk about competitive balance rather than fair play.”

The Financial Fair Play model is set to be replaced with new rulings since the rules have failed to achieve equality amongst clubs in Europe. UEFA are currently working on the new laws, which will be announced in due course.
