XDefiant, Ubisoft’s failed Call of Duty rival, received a whopping final update on December 18, ahead of its scheduled shutdown in 2025. Season 3, for example, added the long-awaited Assassins class based on the Assassins Creed franchise along with other content that would have been scheduled for new seasons.

New content includes three new factions and 13 maps as well as multiple game modes like Tactical and Vs Bots. This change also introduces new progression mechanics, weapons, and features for players to experience before the game is ultimately shut down.

Ubisoft’s Final Update for XDefiant Introduces New Content Ahead of 2025 Shutdown

XDefiant is a free-to-play fast-paced arena shooter that mixes gunplay with unique factions and customizable load-outs. Yet even with an appealing premise, the game floundered in an oversaturated genre, raising questions about its longevity after the shuttering of similar projects like Concord. Although Ubisoft had previously claimed that XDefiant wasn’t in jeopardy of getting switched off, the project was officially re-killed earlier this month, announcing a shutdown date of June 2025.

One of the most awaited parts of the update is the Assassins faction, which brings with it some of the best characters from Assassin’s Creed, a pen ball of Hidden Blade, and exclusive abilities. The lineup features other factions, including the rogue special forces Wolves and deadly Blood Dragon cyber commandos from Far Cry 3 DLC, each with their own unique gameplay style. It also brings with it bug fixes, balance changes, and updates for existing maps and weapons.

Furthermore, and noteworthy, are new game modes such as the Defuse and Vs Bots along with team balancing and spectator features. A new Prestige system rewards fans with exclusive items, while customizable skins and reticles add polish to the game. As XDefiant gears up for its final shutdown in 2025, this last patch is a farewell to players and a way to allow you to experience the game’s evolution before it disappears for good.
