Ubisoft might finally release its games on the Steam platform and we might have the new Steam Deck to thank for it

Ubisoft and Steam split approximately two years ago when the former opted to distribute its digital PC titles solely through Uplay and the Epic Games Store. However, recent evidence suggests that Ubisoft titles may soon be accessible on the famous digital games marketplace.

According to data discovered by Pavel Djundik, the founder of SteamDB, Valve changed the Steam client and included the Ubisoft Connect PC client in the default package. If you have Steam installed and updated, the client should already be included in your installation.

Valve and Ubisoft have not formally responded, but if Djundik’s assertions are correct, at least one of the two should do so shortly. The reason for Ubisoft’s comeback is unknown, although it’s likely that it’s related to the upcoming Steam Deck launch in February 2022.

Soon after the portable system was announced, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot suggested that if Valve’s portable console got large enough, Ubisoft will resume selling games through Steam. The fact is that the system hasn’t even been released yet, but the sheer volume of pre-orders Valve has gotten thus far may be enough to warrant Ubisoft’s return.

Ubisoft does have some material on Steam, such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Trials Rising, Far Cry New Dawn, and The Crew 2, among others. Space Junkies was the most recent game to be uploaded on March 26th, 2019. Since then, Ubisoft has released a slew of new games, like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and more.

In addition, the publisher is working on some Tom Clancy titles, including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Beyond Good and Evil 2, and others. These are just a few of the titles that may make their way to Valve’s shop if the French publisher decides to return to Steam.

Another rationale for putting the Ubisoft Connect client on Steam is to update titles that are already accessible, although that is significantly less intriguing.
