When the author who created your character tells you that you *are* him — that’s not a compliment, that’s a superpower. And for 27-year-old rising star Tyriq Withers, having Colleen Hoover walk the set of *Reminders of Him* every day was exactly that.

## What Tyriq Withers Said About Colleen Hoover’s Presence

In an exclusive interview, Withers opened up about what it meant to have the beloved novelist physically present during filming. “Having Colleen there was incredible,” he shared, adding that her being open and generous gave him real confidence — and that when the person who imagined the character tells you that *you are* him, it frees you to trust your instincts completely.

That kind of validation is rare in Hollywood — and it clearly shaped a performance that early audiences are calling one of the most emotionally honest of the year.

## The Role, the Grief, and Why It’s Personal

Tyriq Withers lost his older brother Kionte in 2021 — a tragedy that profoundly shaped his approach to playing Ledger Ward. Ledger is a former NFL player and bar owner still quietly processing the death of his best friend, who happens to be the late boyfriend of the film’s lead, Kenna Rowan.

Colleen Hoover, who handpicked Withers, described his casting as finding someone capable of holding the audience’s empathy while carrying deep emotional complexity — doing so much with restraint and warmth.
