TSMC’s plant producing chip for Apple hit by contamination of gases for manufacturing process

As we know the world is currently facing with silicon crisis and all the tech industries around the world are looking at Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Co; to get them out of this predicament.

Taiwan is the world’s largest exporter of silicon chips and hosts TSMC which is the world’s largest chip manufacturer exporting orders for the likes of Apple and AMD. Since most of the tech companies in the world are dependent on TSMC it’s a given that if the company stops its production for even a day for any reason then it’s enough to delay the launching and availability of some high-end products from brands like Apple.

We have seen that during the recent wave of COVID, the island country was forced to implement a short-lived lockdown, which enough made the global tech giants panic in their boots. Most of the chips in the market of PC, Notebook, and Datacenters make use of chips supplied by TSMC.

According to recent sources, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co reported today that some of its production lines in southern Taiwan were hit with contamination from gases used in the chipmaking process. However, the company also stated that the mishap does not affect its operations and it will keep working at its full capacity.

But the worrying matter is that the facility which was hit by this incident was none other than TSMC’s most advanced chipmaking facility, Fab 18. the impact is considered to have some worrisome impact because the particular facility was producing the latest inline processors for the upcoming iPhones and Mac computers.

“To ensure that there will be no issues with production quality, TSMC is currently carrying out stringent follow-up operations.”
