TSMC to raise quotes of their wafers by 10-20% from next year

The world’s largest semiconductor foundry has informed its customers recently that its quotes will rise 10-20% starting next year. So, already having reported increasing its wafer prices this year, TSMC will again increase its prices in 2022 and has already informed its high profile clients like AMD, Apple and now even Intel.

Digitimes reported:

TSMC has notified clients of an about 10% price hike for its sub-16nm process manufacturing, with the new prices set to be effective starting 2022, according to sources at IC design houses.

This will further increase the prices of next-gen processors, SoCs, which in turn can impact the prices of electronic devices next year. TSMC’s technological prowess is insane and high profile clients wouldn’t mind paying that extra if they get the cutting-edge chips in return.

So, it will be interesting to see big names like AMD, Apple, MediaTek and others who use TSMC wafers react to this price hike. On the other hand, the South Korean giant, Samsung, who is also very advanced in its chip manufacturing could again pounce on this opportunity to lure big consumers like AMD or Apple as they did previously with NVIDIA and Qualcomm.

Intel, which will be using 6nm chips by TSMC, is also planning to spend billions to make revive its foundry and makes advanced chips as it laid its roadmap. Well, in the coming years, TSMC will not only be the major player as companies are heavily investing in the semiconductor business, but TSMC will always be a major force in the world.
