Triumph Motorcycles, a household name in the motorcycle world, continues to expand its affordable lineup. The company has lately launched its most affordable bike in the form of Speed T4. Triumph needs to battle Royal Enfield in this space and it has been pretty proactively developing products, with the Bajaj-backed initiative. Among the competitors of the updated MY25 Speed 400 will be the Guerrilla 450, while the Speed T4 is positioned as a rival to the recently revised Royal Enfield Classic 350. While the Classic 350 is the key rival, the Speed T4 gets more changes compared to its MY25 Speed 400.
All About the Triumph Speed T4 vs. Speed 400
The Speed 400 and Speed T4 come with a similar spec sheet as they run on the same engine whose lineup consists of a 398cc SOHC single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit. Even so, Triumph has set up this engine differently for every model. The Speed T4 changes the electronically controlled throttle system of the Speed 400 to a mechanical one and at this point, it delivers 30.6 bhp at 7,000 RPM and 36 Nm of torque at 5,000 RPM compared with the figures for the Speed 400 which were 40 bhp at 8,000 RPM and 37.5 Nm at 6,500 RPM.
Both models get a 6-speed gearbox, but the Speed T4 gets an O Ring chain for its final drive while the Speed 400 runs on an X Ring chain. They’ve also tweaked the engine’s exhaust note to give it a more bass-heavy growl, similar to what would be expected from traditional turbochargers.
In terms of dimensions, the Speed T4 is slightly wider with handlebars measuring 827 mm and taller at 1,098 mm, compared to the Speed 400’s 814 mm and 1,084 mm. The Speed T4 also has a seat height of 806 mm and weighs 180 kg, making it 4 kg heavier than the Speed 400. The Speed T4 features 43mm RSU telescopic front forks, while the Speed 400 boasts 43mm USD forks in a gold finish. Notably, the Speed T4 has narrower 140-section tires, whereas the Speed 400 is equipped with wider 150-section tires.
Riding dynamics differ as well; the MY25 Speed 400 offers adjustable levers, which are not available on the Speed T4. However, the Speed T4 provides a richer exhaust sound that the Speed 400 lacks. Most other features and lighting setups are shared between the two models. The Speed T4 is expected to deliver a more relaxed riding experience, while the Speed 400 maintains a sportier performance orientation.
