## What Is *Sammy’s Children’s Day* About?

Set in 1980s Kowloon Walled City, where triads run rampant and corruption infects the police force, He Chusan dreams of studying hard and escaping the chaos. His plans collapse when Xia Liuyi, a triad deputy leader, forcibly pulls him into a criminal scheme. As conspiracies unfold and power struggles intensify, the two men move from reluctant allies to partners in revenge. [IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/news/ni65747482/)

He Chusan is the Walled City’s lone university student who believes discipline and education are his only escape. Xia Liuyi is a fierce enforcer whose authority is backed by violence and reputation. These routes should never cross — yet circumstances keep pulling them together. [Deadline](https://deadline.com/2026/03/kpop-demon-hunters-2-maggie-kang-chris-appelhans-1236751543/)

This isn’t your typical sweet campus romance. *Sammy’s Children’s Day* is moody, gritty, and deeply psychological — set against the backdrop of the real [Kowloon Walled City](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kowloon_Walled_City), the famously lawless, densely packed enclave that existed in Hong Kong until its demolition in 1994.

## Why Fans Are Already Hooked

Adapted from the hit novel by She Xie Dian Dian — a top-tier IP with over ten million fans [Rolling Stone](https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-news/kpop-demon-hunters-sequel-confirmed-1235529670/) — this drama has one of the most loyal pre-existing fanbases of any BL adaptation in recent years. The story previously appeared as a manhua and audio drama, but this is its first full television adaptation. The first episode is available free on GagaOOLala [Netflix Tudum](https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/kpop-demon-hunters-sequel), making it easy to dive straight in with zero commitment.

## Cast Highlights

**He Changxi** as He Chusan brings quiet, burning intensity to the role of a calculating student navigating survival in a criminal world. **He Yanchao** as Xia Liuyi is fierce and unpredictably tender — the kind of morally complex lead that BL drama fans live for. Their dynamic shifts from suspicion to reliance to something far more dangerous, episode by episode.
