India will head into the AFC Asian Cup with a new coaching staff member in Trevor Sinclair. The former England international will be a part of Igor Stimac’s coaching staff as a set-piece coach and an in-match tactical assistant.
Sinclair will link up with the national team on December 29, one day before the contingent travels to Doha, Qatar. His experience in big competitions of the stature of the 2002 FIFA World Cup will surely help players as they look to make it out of their group consisting of Syria, Uzbekistan and Australia.

Trevor Sinclair played with Igor Stimac at West Ham United in the early 2000s, meaning their association goes back almost two decades. Sinclair made 177 appearances for the Hammers between 1997 and 2003, before eventually moving on to Manchester City. His playing career consisted of teams like Blackpool, QPR and Cardiff City before he became an assistant manager.Â
Igor Stimac is yet to officially announce the final squad travelling to Qatar to play the AFC Asian Cup. However, he has released a detailed list of 50 probables that could make it into the final team.Â
The Blue Tigers face a massive challenge in their first matchday, with the team set to face Australia. However, they are expected to qualify for the subsequent stages, with hopes high for a result against Syria and Uzbekistan.
