Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to offer Harry Kane a new contract to stay beyond the summer. The striker has been a talismanic figure for the team for a decade, but his future is once again up in the air right now.
His contract was last extended in 2016, until 2024. And this summer, he will only have one year remaining on his current deal. Unless Spurs can find a way to renew his deal, he will be walking out as a free agent next year.
Harry Kane to have negotiations with Spurs over new contract
With a total of 270 goals across all competitions, Harry Kane is the top goalscorer of all-time for Tottenham. But in spite of this remarkable feat, he has not won a single trophy during his time with the club.
He has also led the England national team as its captain through multiple major tournaments. The closest the Three Lions came to winning a trophy under Kane’s captaincy was the 2020 Euros at home. However, England lost to Italy in the finals.
Spurs also came up short against Liverpool in the 2019 Champions League final, leading to Kane missing out on their first trophy in years. Now, there is interest from Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Real Madrid for a move in the summer.
But as seen in the past, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy can be very difficult to deal with. Man City’s €100m+ offer was turned down two years ago, but this time around, there could be a sense of urgency for the team unless there is an agreement over a new contract.
