Tottenham Hotspur and Antonio Conte have reached a verbal agreement for the managerial position. The board sacked Nuno Espirito Santo after only ten games in charge. The Portuguese manager was unable to make a big impact on the players, which resulted in a series of poor performances.
The former Chelsea manager is back in London to sign the contract. Tottenham have offered Antonio Conte a contract until 2023. A verbal agreement has been reached between the two parties about the salary and the details of the contract.
Currently ninth in the table, Tottenham Hotspur have the joint-worst defensive record in the top half. They have conceded sixteen goals in ten games, and have only scored ten. With Harry Kane out of form, the goals have been very hard to come by for the London club. This has resulted in them having the worst goal difference among the first 17 clubs in the table.
Following Conte’s time at Chelsea and Inter Milan, it is very likely that he will feature a system with 3 central defenders. Fixing the defense will be the biggest challenge for Conte, and he will then have to work on the attacking output.
Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici wanted Conte to replace Mourinho in the summer. They worked together previously at Juventus, and Paratici wanted Conte to take charge of his team yet again. But, he could reach an agreement with the manager at the time.
The two have now agreed a contract, and the official announcement can be expected very soon.
