Tottenham Hotspur are in a crisis with the managerial position, and still have their bench vacant. Ryan Mason was appointed to finish the season following the sacking of Jose Mourinho three quarters into the season, and only six days before the Carabao Cup final.
Antonio Conte was the most recent target for the London club, who rejected the job offer. The reason behind his dismissal of a trip back to the English capital is Tottenham’s ‘inability to challenge for titles’ and overall lack of competitiveness and hunger for titles. And those are things that a fiery personality like Conte heavily relies on.
Spurs were also in talks with Erik ten Hag, but failed to reach an agreement with him. Ten Haag ended up extending his contract with Ajax shortly after, as his side lifted another Eredivisie title in 20/21.
According to reports by the Mirror, Daniel Levy and co. are back in pursuit for the Ajax boss.
Mauricio Pochettino was also in talks with a return to the club. However, PSG have maintained that they have no intentions of parting ways with him just yet. Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has also been considered for the job, but no clarity has been attained on that front just yet.
Ten Hag has impressed Spurs officials, especially with his showing in the Champions League back in 2019. Pochettino’s Spurs defeated his Ajax side that year to advance to the finals. And now, if negotiations go positively, he could be in the Premier League next season.
