1. England vs India in 1936- 588 runs

In 1936’s July, England and India together scored 588 runs on the second day of the second Test. It’s still the undisputed highest runs scored in a single day of Test to date. England continued to bat on Day 2 and mustered 398 runs and India scored 190 runs. Wally Hammond had a stellar 167, and the game ended in a tie.

2. England vs South Africa in 1924- 522 runs

England is in the second position too as the second-highest score recorded on a single day of the test match against South Africa was 503 runs. The venue was Lords in 1924. The South African team added 19 runs to make it to a total of 522.

3. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh in 2002- 509 runs

In 2002, Sri Lanka mustered 509 runs on Day 1 of their first Test in Colombo. Till then. England and South Africa’s score of 508 runs at the Oval on a single day remained the highest.

4. England vs South Africa in 1935- 508 runs

The test between England and South Africa took place in 1935 at the Oval. The English piled up 221 runs and South Africa scored 287. It held the record in 2002 until a Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh broke the record.

5. Pakistan vs England in 2022- 506 runs

The highest number of runs ever scored in a Test match on day one was 506/4 for England. Despite Brook 101* off 81 balls and Ben Stokes 32* off 15 balls desired to dominate Pakistan’s bowlers, even more, the match got terminated 15 overs early due to poor lighting.
