The Indian Premier League is always unpredictable, so does its auction. You never know what is there in the store, as sometimes not-so-known are bought for crores by the famous franchises, while some famous and top cricketers may remain unsold.
As the mini-auction before IPL 2021 was successfully conducted in Chennai Thursday, it was full of surprises, as few top players like Aaron Finch, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Marnus Labuschagne were in dismay as they could not find any place in any of the franchises.
Let’s have a look at top 5 unsold players this IPL 2021 auction:
Aaron Finch
Aaron Finch, Australia’s skipper in limited-overs who has 2005 runs to his name in 87 IPL matches, and also a regular in the IPL was left disappointed after no team showed interest in him. Maybe some of the reasons for him being unsold is his average performance in the IPL 2020, where he scored 268 runs from 12 matches and was released by RCB for IPL 2021.
Jason Roy
Jason Roy, who was also expected to attract the teams also remained unsold. Although he was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 1.5 crore prior to IPL 2020, unfortunately he had to leave midway due to some personal reasons. However, his IPL stats are not that bad, as he has played just eight matches, and has scored 179 runs including an unbeaten 91 for Gujarat Lions in 2018.
Kyle Meyers
Mayers recently hit a double ton on his debut and also helped his tea to a historic win against Bangladesh this month, but still couldn’t manage to get a team and remained unsold with the base price of Rs 50 lakh, maybe due to his not-so-good performance in the T20 with 54 innings with a score of only 688 runs with an average of 16.78 and with 110.78 strike rate.
Alex Hales
Alex Hales displayed a fantastic performance at the Big Bash League recently, with 543 runs to his name from only 15 matches with an average of 38.78 for Sydney Thunder. He was one of those big names in the auction and was expected a lot of attention but unfortunately, no franchise showed interest in him, maybe due to his off-field conduct due to which he had to stay away from the national side since 2019.
Liam Plunkett
The England pacer Liam Plunkett was left disheartened as no franchises showed interest in him, but also, as a matter of fact, he has played his limited over cricket last for the national team long back in 2019. However, he has played for Daredevils for 7 matches in the IPL, bagging only four wickets at an economy of 9.0.
