Hakan Calhanoglu recently signed for Inter Milan directly from their city rivals AC Milan. The Turkish international is not the first to do so, and many legends have crossed the city border before. Here are the top five players who have played for both Inter Milan and AC Milan.
5. Hernan Crespo
The Argentinian played for Inter Milan on three different occasions and spent only one season with their rivals, AC Milan. He scored 45 goals in 116 appearances for Inter and netted 17 goals in the 2004/05 season, that he spent out on loan with AC Milan.
4. Ronaldo
Ronaldo Nazario joined Inter Milan for a world-record fee at the prime of his abilities. He scored 49 goals in 79 appearances for Inter across two seasons, and was then sold to Real Madrid. R9 eventually returned to Italy, to the other side of Milan and while he wasn’t the same due to injury and weight issues, he managed to score 9 times for them.
3. Clarence Seedorf
The midfielder is most fondly remembered for his time with AC Milan, spending a decade there and winning two serie A titles and Champions League trophies respectively. Seedorf spent 10 years with the Rossoneri and scored 62 goals for them.
2. Andrea Pirlo
Although he is best known for his time with AC Milan and subsequently, Juventus, the legendary midfielder also played for the Nerazzurri. He struggled to break into the first team, making only 40 appearances. He was then sold to AC Milan and it was there that he started to flourish into one of the best in the world.
1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Few players will ever be as iconic as Zlatan, and fewer will be able to put on their best for both Inter Milan and AC Milan. The Swede made things happen at both clubs, and is currently featuring for the Rossoneri, despite being on the verge of turning 40 years old.
