This season despite the COVID-19 barriers, the tournament is going on a great deal, with more improved infrastructure. The Indian players took some time come to the track but the foreigners were on fire. However, some overseas players flopped to have a good season in the ISL 2020-21.
Let’s have a glance at those Five players, who failed to come up with good performance till now-
5. Kristian Opseth (Bengaluru FC)
Bengaluru Fc coach Carles Cuadrat since the last season is dealing with the front goal line problem, he went on signing the bests overseas to manage that problem. Opseth who can both play the role of attacking midfielder and central striker along with Deshorn was also retained for this season. However half of the season is already over but Opseth and also Deshorn both are still goal-less with not a very great performance. It’s a matter of some more time to see how the Norwegian performs.
4. Gary Hooper (Kerala Blasters FC)
Gary Hooper, who was signed by Kerala Blasters FC is one of the most expensive strikers in the ISL this season, who has played in competitions in Europe and Australia. However, his debut has not been that great as the former Celtic player has only managed to score two goals in nine matches. This poor performance of Hooper has led him back to the bench replacing Australian Jordan Murray.
3. Marcelinho (Odisha FC)
Marcelinho, who is considered as one of the best of the ISL, has been one of the biggest disappointments this season as the Brazilian goal-scoring machine with even great records of being the top goalscorers in the previous seasons is without a goal this season and did not make many appearances too with most of the time spending on the bench engulfed in injury.
2. Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev (Chennaiyin FC)
Fatkhullo, The Tajikistan captain, was signed by Chennaiyin FC with high expectations to manage the winger but came out mostly as a disappointment till the half of the season even though Chennaiyin FC were defensively good this season but are at the eighth position currently. Fathkuloev was even handed the captain’s armband by Csaba Laszlo prior to the start of the season but things didn’t work accordingly.
1. Steven Taylor (Odisha FC)
Steven Taylor, the former Newcastle United FC captain was roped in by Odisha FC with a lot of expectations from him. The star defender has started in all eight games the club has played but has not managed to keep a single clean sheet till the season. Meanwhile, Odisha FC have already let in 14 goals while managing to score only 6 and they are currently at the bottom of the table.
