All players can’t fit into the plans of a manager for the season. Sometimes they are the younger players, who need more grooming and are sent out on loan. Other times, they are recognised players that have either been replaced or have no place in the system of play that the team follow anymore.

Here, we look at some of the most famous players that have been left out of the 25-man Premier League squad by their team.

5. Phil Jones [Manchester United]

It is hard to imagine ever seeing Phil Jones in a United shirt again. Sir Alex Ferguson deemed Jones as the future of the United backline. It is easy to say that the legendary manager was wrong about Jones. His time at Old Trafford seems to be up, and he could be gone when the winter transfer window opens.

4. Danny Rose [Tottenham Hotspurs]

With the signing of Sergio Reguilon and Matt Doherty to bolster the full-backs for Spurs, it surely seems like the mainstay has played his last game for Spurs. He spent the back half of last season on loan at Newcastle and is in need of suitors at 30, with a few good years left in the tank.

3. Yannick Bolaise [Everton]

Multiple injuries and loan spells later, Yannick Bolaise has been completely frozen out of the squad by Carlo Ancelotti. There were talks between Everton and Middlesbrough regarding the winger, but a move failed to go through. It is likely that the Toffees will be eager to offload the winger as soon as possible.

2. Sergio Romero [Manchester United]

A rather sad inclusion to the list, the arrival of Dean Henderson back to Manchester United has spelt out the end of Romero’s long United career. While he was never to be picked over De Gea, the Argentine keeper was a perfect back up to the Spaniard between the sticks.

1. Mesut Ozil [Arsenal]

The highest-paid player at Arsenal, Mesut Ozil has been left out of the Gunners’ 20/21 squad by manager Mikel Arteta. The German joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 and is now surely at the end of his career at the Emirates.
