Andy Murray recently defeated Frances Tiafoe in a match that went on for three hours and forty five minutes. However, despite the length of the match, it does not come close to the top five longest tennis matches played in history. And that is what we will be looking at in this article.

5. Fabrice Santoro Vs Arnaud Clement (2004 French Open, 6 hours and 33 minutes)

The two Frenchmen faced off in the very first round of the French Open and produced a remarkable contest. While Santoro was unseeded, Clement was the 32nd seed and the game went on for two days. Santoro managed to save two match points and went on to win the match.

4. Kevin Anderson Vs John Isner (2018 Wimbledon, 6 hours 36 minutes)

While everyone was expecting the other semi final of Wimbledon, pitting Rafael Nadal against Novak Djokovic, it was this one that truly stood out. The two college friends played out a match of 49 games, which remains the longest semi-final in the history of the sport.

3. Leonardo Mayer (ARG) Vs Joao Souza (BRA) (2015 Davis Cup, 6 hours 43 mins)

The Davis Cup game proved that Brazil and Argentina’s rivalry is not limited to football alone. Mayer was under extreme pressure since the match was being played in Buenos Aires, and ultimately ended up winning 7-6,7-6,5-7,5-7,15-13.

2. Tomas Berdych/Lukas Rosol (CZE) Vs Stan Wawrinka/ Marco Chiudinelli (SUI) (2013 Davis Cup, 7 hours 1 minute)

The only doubles match to make it onto this list, this remains the longest contest in the history of the Davis Cup. The match was exhausting for both the teams, and the Czechs managed to snatch the win after playing seven hours of tennis, with the scoreline reading 6-4,5-7,6-4,6-7,24-22. This was also the year that the Czechs went on to win the Cup.

1. John Isner Vs Nicolas Mahut (2010 Wimbledon, 11 hours 5 minutes)

John Isner is the only man to make it onto this list twice, and has been through some intense battles throughout his career. The match started on 22nd June 6:13 pm BST and finished on 24th June at 4:47 pm. 183 games were played between the two players, and the only breaks were due to bad light.
