With one of the most tumultuous years in the history of the world drawing to a conclusion, we decided to appreciate some of the better things in life in the form of the best athletes in Spain who managed to play football throughout the pandemic to keep us entertained. Here are the top 5 players in La Liga in 2020:

5. Gerard Moreno 

18 goals and 4 assists make the Villareal striker the first entry on our list of the best players in Spain in 2020. His contribution to the team was even more valuable considering the Yellow Submarine managed to qualify for the Europa League. 

4. Thibaut Courtois 

The recovery made by the former Chelsea shot-stopper has been phenomenal, and the goalie was key in Real Madrid’s 34th La Liga title victory. Courtois conceded the least amount of goals in the division last season and has been showing signs of the previous year as of late again. 

3. Sergio Ramos 

With 10 goals to his name, along with an assist, the lowest number of goals conceded in the League, as well as an incredible leadership spirit that led Real Madrid to the La Liga title, Sergio Ramos has been unbelievable even though he is in his mid-30s. 

2. Karim Benzema 

The Real Madrid striker has been one of the main reasons why Madrid have not found themselves as forgotten entities. No matter how many youngsters rise up to challenge the striker, Benzema’s talent and experience making him essential to Madrid’s attacking output. 

1. Lionel Messi 

Having finished as the highest scorer and with the highest number of assists in the league, the 6-time Ballon d’Or winner is once more the best of the best in Spain, 19 goals and 17 assists make the Argentinian and undisputed champion in his own right.
