The Premier League has seen some heavy defeats, even though it is the top tier of football in the world. Mistakes are costly, and that is exactly what these results prove, since one team was not at the top of their game, and the other was able to take their chances.

Here are the top five heaviest defeats in Premier League history.

Premier League’s heaviest defeats

5. Tottenham Hotspur 9-1 Wigan- 2009

After qualifying for the Champions League for the first time since 1962, Spurs were able to start off the 09/10 season with a 9-1 demolition of Wigan. Peter Crouch, Jermaine Defoe, Aaron Lennon, David Bentley and Niko Kranjcar were all on the scoresheet for the game.

4. Southampton 0-9 Leicester City- 2019

On a cold rainy evening in Southampton, the Saints were torn apart in front of their own fans. Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy scored a hat-trick, alongside Ben Chilwell, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans who also scored to dominate a 10-man home team in the Premier League.

3. Manchester United 9-0 Southampton- 2021

The very next season, it happened again. Southampton blipped out and conceded nine goals at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Two red cards for Southampton gave United the opportunity to have eight different goalscorers in a Premier League game – a record achievement.

2. Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth- 2022

The most recent demolition on this list, Liverpool bounced back from their derby loss against Manchester United with a strong 9-0 win against Bournemouth. Despite having the worst start to a season under Jurgen Klopp before the game, things are not looking so bad anymore.

1. Manchester United 9-0 Ipswich- 1995

The second time Manchester United have featured on this list – and this time, it is in the Alex Ferguson era. Roy Keane, Mark Hughes, Paul Ince and Andy Cole were all on target as they defeated Ipswich Town comfortably.
