The Champions League has had some iconic players compete for the top prize in club football. And a number of legendary goalkeepers have been among them as well. In this article, we take a look at the top five Champions League goalkeepers with the most appearances.

Victor Valdes – 106

Victor Valdes has surpassed German legend Oliver Kahn in terms of appearances, since he only managed 103. Valdes won three Champions League titles with his boyhood club, once against Arsenal and twice against Manchester United.

The Chelsea keeper was the hero of their first Champions League victory in 2012, defeating the mighty Bayern Munich at their own stadium in the finals. Cech remains the goalkeeper with the most Premier League clean sheets, at 202.

Gianluigi Buffon – 124

Gianluigi Buffon’s career will be very difficult to replicate, and it is a shame that the titan has not managed to get his hands on the Champions League trophy in his illustrious career. He is one of the two players in history, alongside Paolo Montero, who have made three final appearances but have never lifted the trophy.

Manuel Neuer – 124

Manuel Neuer has two Champions League trophies to his name with Bayern Munich, and made up for his disappointing first year with the Bavarian giants the very next year. The German has revolutionised his position, and has rarely let the team down since the 2013 win.

Iker Casillas – 177

Iker Casillas will go down as one of the greatest goalkeepers to ever appear in the Champions League. Casillas was Real Madrid’s number one for over 15 years, and won three titles with them, including La Decima. He also has the most clean sheets in the competition, with 59, and ended his career with Porto after leaving his boyhood club.
