Scoring a hat-trick in any game is special, but scoring a hat-trick in record time in a Champions League game is legendary.
Here are 5 of the fastest hat-tricks in Champions League history.
5. Robert Lewandowski vs Red Star Belgrade (12 minutes, 2019)
Arguably the best number 9 of his generation, Robert Lewandowski has had the honour of winning every single trophy available in club football.
He has also managed to score a hat-trick in 12 minutes in the Champions League, ranking him among the fastest. In the Bundesliga, his 5 goals in 9 minutes have made him legendary and cemented his status as one of the best.
4. Cristiano Ronaldo vs Malmo (11 minutes, 2015)
Ronaldo featured in the 8-0 thrashing of Malmo, for his former employers Real Madrid and scored 4 goals on the night. The 8 goal margin was one of the biggest in the history of the tournament.
Cristiano and Madrid eventually went on to become the kings of Europe that very season.
3. Raheem Sterling vs Atalanta (10 minutes, 2019)
The first-timers, Atalanta, were treated to a rude awakening when they visited Manchester to face Pep Guardiola’s City. Sterling managed to put on an incredible display for his team as he managed to net three goals in just ten minutes to thrash the Serie A side 5-1.Â
He also won a penalty and provided an assist for Sergio Aguero, who ended up having two to his name alongside the winger.
2. Mike Newell vs Rosenborg (9 minutes, 1995)
Blackburn Rovers were once the Champions of the Premier League and were competing in the top tier of European competition. However, they now find themselves as a mid-table side in the Championship.Â
Back during their glory days, when Alan Shearer was playing for the Rovers, Newell served as a backup. The forward managed to net a perfect hat-trick against Rosenborg, in 9 minutes to put him amongst the fastest.Â
1. Bafetimbi Gomis vs Dinamo Zagreb (8 minutes, 2011)
The French side enjoyed a comfortable victory against Zagreb, finishing the match 7-1. Bafetimbi Gomis managed to end the first half with an easy tap in and opened the second half with a great strike to make it two.Â
A 52nd-minute slot into an open net earned the player the honour of breaking Mike Newell’s 16-year record of scoring the fastest hat-trick in the Champions League by completing it in 8 minutes.Â
