Top 5 companies owned by Elon Musk: If you’re a tech guy or are interested in futuristic techs, you must have definitely heard the name of Elon Musk, the man behind the famous electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla and the one who dreams of colonizing Mars and giving network access to everybody by sending out thousands of satellites through SpaceX.

Originally born in South Africa, Elon Musk is now also a United States citizen. Currently, Elon Musk is the 2nd richest man in the world with a fortune of around $160 billion, only behind Jeff Bezos. Apart from Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk owns numerous number of companies.

1. Tesla

According to Musk, the purpose of Tesla is to help expedite the move to sustainable transport and energy, obtained through electric vehicles and solar power.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) is an American aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company headquartered in Hawthorne, California. It was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk with the goal of reducing space transportation costs to enable the colonization of Mars. SpaceX has developed several launch vehicles, the Starlink satellite constellation, the Dragon cargo spacecraft, and flown humans to the International Space Station on the SpaceX Dragon 2.

Elon Musk has a vision of colonizing Mars so to reduce space travel cost, SpaceX has been trying its best to develop. He also wants to give internet broadband service to every corner of the globe by forming Starlink satellite constellation. SpaceX plans to launch 4,425 satellites to cover the entire Earth, out of which around 900 satellites have already been launched.

On December 2016, while stuck in traffic, Elon Musk came up with an idea of digging a tunnel to facilitate alternative and faster travel routes. He thus founded The Boring Company.

The Boring Company (also known as TBC) is an American infrastructure and tunnel construction services company. Its current and proposed projects are designed for loop intra-city transit systems although the company has stated that the Hawthorne test tunnel can support Hyperloop R&D and that current tunnels are being built so they could support the eventual transition to Hyperloop-based transportation on longer inter-city routes.

4. Open AI

OpenAI is an artificial intelligence research laboratory consisting of the for-profit corporation OpenAI LP and its parent company, the non-profit OpenAI Inc. The company, considered a competitor to DeepMind, conducts research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) with the stated goal of promoting and developing friendly AI in a way that benefits humanity as a whole.

The organization was founded in San Francisco in late 2015 by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and others, who collectively pledged US$1 billion. Musk resigned from the board in February 2018 but remained a donor. In 2019, OpenAI LP received a US$1 billion investment from Microsoft.

Neuralink Corporation is an American neurotechnology company founded by Elon Musk and others, developing implantable brain-machine interfaces (BMIs). The company’s headquarters are in San Francisco; it was started in 2016 and was first publicly reported in March 2017.

Since its founding, the company has hired several high-profile neuroscientists from various universities. By July 2019, it had received $158 million in funding (of which $100 million was from Musk) and was employing a staff of 90 employees. At that time, Neuralink announced that it was working on a “sewing machine-like” device capable of implanting very thin (4 to 6 μm in width) threads into the brain, and demonstrated a system that reads information from a lab rat via 1,500 electrodes, anticipating to start experiments with humans in 2020.
