Top 5 clubs who have won the most FIFA Club World Cup titles in history

The FIFA Club World Cup in 2021 will be the tournament’s 18th edition. The competition began in the year 2000. Between 2001 and 2004, however, it was not held. In 2005, the competition was re-launched with a new structure.

Seven teams from six confederations compete for the title of club world champions, including the host nation. Chelsea will face Palmeiras in the final this year. The competition has previously been won by two English clubs.

Since its beginning, the FIFA Club World Cup has been dominated by Spanish teams. The competition has been won seven times by Spanish clubs. Real Madrid holds the record for most titles won with four. Barcelona, their arch-rivals, are ranked second. On three occasions, the Blaugrana have crowned champions. Brazil, on the other hand, has the most representatives.

Let’s take a look at the top five clubs with the most FIFA Club World Cup titles, ranked from bottom to top:

5. Liverpool: 1 Title

The Reds have only ever won the competition once. Their lone victory came in 2019. In the final, Liverpool defeated Flamengo of Brazil. Jurgen Klopp’s team had to put in a lot of effort to win. At the end of the game, Flamengo held them to a goalless draw. In extra time, however, Roberto Firmino scored to put Liverpool over the top.

The club had previously competed in the competition in 2005. The Premier League team advanced to the championship game. However, they were defeated by Sao Paulo in the final.

4. Bayern Munich: 2 Titles

Bayern Munich is the next team on the list. In 2013 and 2020, they have crowned FIFA Club World Cup champions. Both victories occurred after they had won the treble the season before.

Bayern Munich is Germany’s most successful club, having won an unprecedented number of league and cup trophies. In addition, they are the competition’s sole German club. Bayern Munich has won the Bundesliga 31 times, the DFB Pokal 20 times, and the Champions League six times.

3. Corinthians: 2 Titles

Corinthians is one of Brazil’s most successful football clubs. They have twice won the FIFA Club World Cup. Their first victory came in the inaugural edition of the competition in 2000. In the final, they defeated Vasco da Gama, another Brazilian team.

This was followed by a second victory in 2012. In the final, they defeated Champions League champions, Chelsea. Corinthians are the only Brazilian team to have won the tournament twice.

2. Barcelona: 3 Titles

The Blaugrana are the second most successful club in FIFA Club World Cup history. They’ve won the competition three times in a row. They won the title three times: in 2009, 2011, and 2015. Barcelona reached the final in 2006 as well. Internacional of Brazil, on the other hand, defeated them.

Barcelona became the first team in football history to win a sextuple with their victory in 2009. In the same season, they won the league, cup, Champions League, domestic Super Cup, European Super Cup, and Club World Cup. In 2020, Bayern Munich repeated the feat.

Barcelona won the competition for the second time in 2011. In the final, they defeated Santos 4-0 from Brazil. Four years later, the Catalans won their third and last title, defeating Argentine team River Plate in the final.

The Spanish giants hold the record for most FIFA Club World Cup titles. With four titles, Real Madrid holds the record for most titles won. Los Blancos won their first title in 2014. They won the competition for the tenth time after winning the Champions League.

The competition was then won three times in a row. Real Madrid has won the trophy three years in a row. Los Blancos won the 2016 tournament, as well as the 2017 and 2018 editions. The Spanish giants also hold the record for most goals scored in the competition, with 32 goals.
