A new study has named New York as the most expensive state for gym-goers, with the average cost of a monthly membership coming in at a whopping $105.56.

Myprotein analysed cost of living data to uncover the price of a gym membership across the U.S. Following New York was District of Columbia, with memberships in the nation’s capital costing $77.55 on average.

At the other end of the scale, Alabama offers the cheapest gym memberships, costing just $22 on average. Take a look at the full list below and see where your state ranks!

Myprotein also compared all 50 states (as well as Washington D.C.), looking at the availability of gyms and green space, as well as the cost of a gym membership, tennis court rental and a healthy grocery shop, to provide a ranking of the best states for people looking to live a healthy lifestyle.

Rhode Island took the top spot overall, scoring highest for affordability, second for green space and seventh for gym access. Delaware followed closely behind, with Wisconsin taking third place and North Dakota and Connecticut rounding out the top five.
