Top 10 Sports Business Deals 2021: The sale of two new IPL franchise and the NFL record broadcast deal are the biggest Sports Business deals of 2021 Credits- Insidesports

The Sports Business has already suffered a lot due to the delay of tournaments and leagues. On top of that, there are several added restrictions. The IPL sale of two new teams and the NFL Record Broadcast deal have made a huge mark this year.

1. BCCI & IPL Sells Ahmedabad & Lucknow franchise for US$1.7 billion

The biggest benchmark of Indian cricket, this year was BCCI and IPL selling the Ahmedabad and Lucknow Franchise for US$1.7 billion. CVC Capitals now owns the Ahmedabad franchise and RPSG’s Sanjiv Goenka owns the Lucknow franchise. Manchester United’s bid failed in the IPL and the company got no team.

2. Biggest Sports Broadcasting Deal Ever

 NFL signed off on various deals including television and made more than US$110 billion over 11 years. The agreements will remain with CBS< ESPN/ABC, Fox, NBC and Amazon from 2023 to 2033. This is the biggest broadcast success story.

3.  CVC becomes the Biggest Investor in Sports

 CVC Capitals made investments into IPL Ahmedabad Franchise, La Liga & a partnership with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). It emerged as the biggest investor in Sports

4.  Newcastle United taken over by Saudis

The Saudis finally took over Newcastle United in October 2021 in October.  This brought an end to Mike Ashley’s troubled tenure as owner of the Premier League club.

5.  Emma Raducanu becomes every brands favourite

 19 year old tennis star Emma Raducanu is getting a lot of brand deals after her victory in US open and getting her major endorsement deal from the jewellery brand Tiffany and Co. Later on she signed a deal with Dior and Evian.

6. Manchester United – Team Viewer Shirt Sponsorship Deal

Manchester United didn’t have a great year on the field but that didn’t stop the record shirt sponsorship deal. Manchester United, signed their new deal with technology company TeamViewer with a reported amount of about €55 million per annum.

7. Adidas Finds Buyer for Reebok

Adidas found a buyer for Reebok in the form of Authentic Brands Group. The group agreed to a deal for €2.1 billion.

Adidas acquired Reebok for a reported US$3.1 billion back in 2006.

8. Osaka gets major brand deals

Naomi Osaka had surprised the entire world by skipping the French Open for her mental health issues. She has been praised by the entire world for her bravery to let the entire world know about her personal issue and she stood up for a social cause. She signed a deal with Louis Vuitton, Tag Heuer, Workday & Panasonic.

9.  NBA Sportradar Deal

The NBA announced a US$1 billion, eight-year betting data and streaming partnership with Sportradar. This is the biggest deal for any commercial sports league with a betting entity for the 2023-24 season.

10. Serie A Media Rights Deal With DAZN

DAZN claimed its biggest deal to date when Italy’s Serie. A clubs gave the green light to the subscription streaming service’s €2.5 billion offer and allowed them for the domestic coverage of the top-flight competition till 2024.
