Ustad Rashid Khan dies at 55. Ustad Rashid Khan belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, which is intricately linked to the Gwalior Gharana. This musical tradition is characterized by medium-slow tempos, a resonant voice, and elaborate rhythmic expressions.
Ustad Rashid Khan was a Hindustani classical musician. He was suffering from cancer and died at a private hospital in Kolkata. On 9th December 2023, i.e. on Tuesday, he died at 3:45 p.m., said Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee said that It is truly disheartening. His demise occurred at the age of only 55, representing a significant loss for the nation and everyone who knew him. He held a special place in my heart, like a brother. At the hospital, Banerjee shared with reporters his profound connection with the departed, recalling how he affectionately referred to her as “mother.”
Last year on 22nd November, Khan was hospitalized at an east Kolkata private medical facility after experiencing an intracerebral hemorrhage.
