In football, the Deadline Day of a transfer window is one of the most spine-thrilling events. Several clubs try their best to grab the last minute deals in order to strengthen the squad and meet their seasonal goals. The same thing goes for players who are in search of different clubs in hopes of reviving their careers.

The January transfer window is has been a simple one on many occasions, unlike the summer window. Though recently, several high profile moves took place during this time as well. Philippe Coutinho, Virgil van Dijk, Fernando Torres and many others have switched their clubs in January.

We bring you the top 10 most expensive winter Deadline Day signings.

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang- £56m

Pierre- Emerick played in the Bundesliga league after which Arsenal took him away from Borussia Dortmund on the January Deadline Day of 2018. The Gunners paid him a salary of £56m for Gabon International which creates a record at that time.

2. Fernando Torres- £50m

Fernando Torres played for Liverpool after which he joined Chelsea on the January Deadline Day in the year 2011 surprising the fans. He joined the Blues for a fee of £50m, which was the costliest Premiere league at that time.

3. Andy Carroll- £35m

The January Deadline Day of 2011 spent huge money to substitute Fernando Torres with Andy Carroll with a whopping amount of £35m. However, he couldn’t give an impressive performance in the new team and after two seasons he joined West Ham on a loan prior to the permanent shift.

4. Jackson Martinez- £32m

Jackson Martinez’s performance at the 2014 World Cup for Colombia was spectacular, despite staying at Porto for another year, he joined Atletico Madrid in 2015. He gave a disappointing performance and his next transfer was the Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande on the January Deadline Day of 2016 for £32m, a record for an Asian team at the time.

5. Willian- £30m

Willian made 10 appearances for the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, scoring one goal, before financial restrictions in August 2013 which compelled Anzhi to transfer their entire squad. Following this, he joined Chelsea. The club paid a fee of around £26.8m for the winger.

6. Juan Cuadrado- £26.8m

Juan Cuadrado joined Chelsea for a total fee of £26.8m from Fiorentina on the January Deadline Day of 2015. He had a disappointing spell with the blues and he made just one appearance for the London club in the Premier League. The Colombian played for the Bianconeri on loan till 2017, before making the shift permanent.

7. Lucas Moura- £25m

This player has been one of the best players at Tottenham Hotspur since his debut in 2018. He had spent five years at PSG before he joined the Premier League team for £25m. He led Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019.

8. Luis Suarez – £22.7m

Luis Suarez has been one of the biggest strikers in Liverpool’s history, he made this list after January Deadline Day in 2011. He arrived from Ajax for a fee of £22.7m and achieved a lot of success and appreciation. He spent three years with the Reds and thereafter moved to Barcelona in 2014. He won multiple league titles and a Champions League with the Catalan club.

9. David Luiz- £21m

David Luiz had two great spells at Chelsea where he won multiple titles, including Premier League and Champions League. The Blues signed him from Benfica on Deadline Day of the 2011 January window. Chelsea paid a fee of £21m to the Portuguese giants for Luiz’s services.

10. Miguel Almiron- £21m

He impressed everyone with his performance for MLS side Atlanta United, Almiron signed for the Newcastle United. The Paraguayan arrived on Tyneside in January 2019 for a fee of £21m, which is the highest fee paid for a player from Major League Soccer.
