Top 10 Indian athletes who shone brightly in 2021

1. Neeraj Chopra

Neeraj Chopra is known as India’s golden boy. He became the first Indian Olympian to win a gold medal in athletics. Neeraj’s final medal allowed India to win a total of 7 medals in the Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj’s second throw of 87.58m sealed his place in the first position.

2. Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting)

Mirabai Chanu is the first Indian weight lifter to win a silver medal in the Olympics. This is India’s first medal in weightlifting. The 49kg division beheld her lifting a total weight of 202 kgs.

3. Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Wrestling)

Ravi Kumar Dahiya got a gold medal this year for the nation. Ravi was against Zavur Uguev in the 57kg freestyle in the finals but he lost gold to him at a figure of 4-7.

4. Lovlina Borgohain (Boxing)

Lovlina Borghain won bronze in Tokyo Olympics 202. Coming from a family of financial hardships, she did make it big in the Olympics.

5. PV Sindhu (Badminton)

PV Sindhu is a known name in the sports industry. She doubled her Olympics medal as she won a bronze at Tokyo Olympics, 2020, playing against China’s He Bingjao in the semi-finals.

6. Bajrang Punia (Wrestler)

Bajrang Purnia won a bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics in the 65kgs category. Apart from that he also won a silver at Asian Wrestling Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

7. Harmanpreet Singh (Hockey)

 Harmanpreet Singh bagged a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics this year. Harman had also carried his good form in Men’s Asian Champions Trophy. He became the second-highest goalscorer in that event, with eight goals to his credit.

8. Avani Lekhara

She became the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic medals. She added a bronze to her gold which she earlier won in the games.

9. Sumit Antil

He won a gold in Paralympics as well as dominated the entire game with his three throws.

10. Sukant Kadam

He missed the Paralympics but bagged gold at Uganda Para Badminton Championship. he also won gold at the 4th National Para Badminton championship. It was definitely a good year for him.
