Barcelona’s greatest ever player Lionel Messi has left the club as both the player and the club failed to reach an agreement due to La Liga’s financial rules. Lionel Messi was the highest earner at Barcelona.

As Barcelona are going through a tumultuous financial time, Messi offered to reduce his wage by 50% but still then it was not possible for Barcelona to register their captain.

Now, as Messi has left the Camp Nou, we take a look at the top 10 highest-earning football players in Barcelona after Lionel Messi’s departure

10. Sergio Aguero – €6m net

8. Miralem Pjanic, Samuel Umtiti – €7m net

7. Frenkie de Jong – €8m net

4. Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, Ousmane Dembele – €10m net

3. Sergio Busquets – €12m net

2. Philipe Coutinho – €14m net

1. Antoine Griezmann – €20m net

Griezmann earns the highest at Barcelona now and is expected to take Messi’s role in the team, though it will be almost next to impossible to replicate Messi’s success at Barcelona.

Coutinho is the second-highest earner at the club despite not playing for the club regularly, which is odd. Dembele is also often injured and still does not have much of an impact on Barcelona’s history. The same is the case for Umtiti and Pjanic.

So, Barcelona’s wage structure is a bit confusing which needs to be corrected to bring the club back into a good financial position.
