IPL 2020: Top 10 bowlers who are contenders to win the Purple Cap

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is only a night’s sleep away. After the tournament was postponed, after many hindrances and altercations, the IPL will begin on September 19 in UAE.

The fact that the tournament is in UAE, will bring an interesting element to every aspect of the game. The pitches will assist a particular style of spin bowlers. However, most of the time under sub-continental conditions one thing remains constant, a free flow of runs! Therefore, the bowlers will have to be on top of their game.

Today we will be taking a look at the 10 top bowlers who have the potential to win the Purple Cap. The Purple Cap is given the bowler who has the most number of wickets in the tournament. They will also be evaluated according to the conditions in UAE where spinners who vary the pace and tend to get some assistance of the pitch. So, pace bowlers may take a backseat in this list.

Rahul Chahar (MI)

We start the list with the dark horse among the list. Chahar has been an extremely underrated leg-spinner. He has been a key asset for MI in their win last year. Chahar is also extremely brave to flight the bowl and invites a batsman to play a big shot. Also, he has a good wrong one and is difficult to read.

Kuldeep Yadav (KKR)

The Knight Riders may not have their extremely spin-friendly home ground of the Eden Gardens, but that won’t affect chinaman Kuldeep Yadav. The mystery bowler can be lethal anywhere in the world with his ability to turn the ball both ways. The economy has been an issue for him, however, he has a nag of picking wickets.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (SRH)

Kumar will lead probably the strongest bowling lineup of the entire IPL. He can swing the bowl in both ways during the powerplay overs. He can also bowl perfect yorkers during the death overs. Due to many tools in his arsenal, he can still be effective on spin-friendly pitches.

Deepak Chahar (CSK)

Both the Chahar brothers make our list. Deepak Chahar has been extremely valuable for CSK. He may lack raw pace, but bowls consistently in the right areas. He is known for picking up crucial wickets in the powerplay overs.

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)

Jasprit Bumrah is hands down one of the best bowlers in the world, irrespective of the format. He will lead the diverse Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack. Bumrah is known for his skill of bowling both yorkers and slower deliveries at will. Therefore, he can be lethal in both powerplay and death overs.

Ravindra Jadeja (CSK)

Jadeja is known for his speedy deliveries. He will be extremely useful in UAE pitches, especially in the absence of Harbhajan Singh. He can also bowl effectively in the powerplay overs as Tahir and Chawla will need a relatively older ball to work with.

Rashid Khan (SRH)

Rashid Khan is probably one of the best T20 spinners in the world. He is known for his speedy deliveries that can tun both ways. He will be even more dangerous on UAE pitches. He can also turn the ball both ways and is extremely difficult to read.

Yuzvendra Chahal (RCB)

Chahal has been a phenomenal limited-over bowler over the years. He will be extremely dangerous on UAE pitches. He’s probably one of the bravest spinners in the world who isn’t afraid to flight the ball.

Imran Tahir (CSK)

Imran Tahir will lead the CSK spin-bowling attack. He has been a phenomenal T20 spinner and will get some assistance from the UAE pitches. Tahir’s googly is extremely difficult to read as well.

Sunil Narine (KKR)

Narine is one of the best spinners in the T20 format. To make it even more dangerous for batsmen, he has changed his action. He has also been varying his pace, thus adding new tools to his arsenal.
