Former Marseille player Tony Cascarino thinks that Kylian Mbappe has gone backwards since 2018. The PSG star won the World Cup with France. He was the main man for France as he starred throughout the tournament and even scored in the final against Croatia.

However, since 2018, Mbappe has only managed a paltry 101 goals across 102 matches in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, which is certainly a drop in form by the standards set by him.

Cascarino told TalkSPORT, via Marca: “If I look at the player he was in 2018, when he won the World Cup, he was electric and devastating, he has taken a step back in the last three years.”

“He was without a doubt the best in the world in 2018, that’s why I was disappointment by his performances at the Euros, he doesn’t have anywhere near the same impact on games involving France.”

“There are times when you can see a glimmer, a reminder, of how good he can be on the pitch, however he just doesn’t do that enough.”

Mbappe was on the verge of having his dream move to Real Madrid come true this summer. Florentino Perez offered upward of 200 million euros but PSG was reluctant to sell the Frenchman despite his contract expiring next summer.

So it is expected that Mbappe will join the Spanish giants next summer in order to take the next step in his career.
