TIM, Ericsson, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. are known for their innovative contributions in the field of technology. However, now the collaboration of these three has set a new world record for ultra-broadband long-distance speed with 5G technology applied to Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). The connection achieved a speed of 1 Gbps on 26 GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies. From the site at a distance of 6.5 kilometers at 1Gbps with UDP protocol, 700Mbps Speedtest Ookla TCP reached on TIM’s live network.

The companies showcased their extended-range 5G mmWave delivering 1 Gbps over a 6.5 km distance in urban Italy. According to reports, the record confirms the usability of the 5G millimeter-wave spectrum, not only for urban, high speed, or high-density-only deployment but also for wider 5G FWA coverage. It also means that the TIM customers will now have enhanced ultra-broadband connections, especially in those areas not yet covered by optic fiber.

A major factor contributing to the innovative solution’s success, tested on a live network, was made possible thanks to the new Ericsson 5G mmWave high power antenna-integrated radio AIR 5322. It was installed at the mobile site on Via Oriolo Romano in Rome, equipped with Ericsson’s extended range software. The devices that connected to the network were all device’s already on the market. They consisted of Casa Systems’ new AurusAI, the industry’s first high-power 5G mmWave customer premise equipment (CPE), and equipped with a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X55 5G Modem-RF System with Qualcomm® QTM527 extended-range mmWave antenna module.

The testing of the solution is of extreme importance in the next-step towards future wireless connectivity. It will lead to the 5G wireless network reaching more areas and covering and covering a wide customer base. Areas that were previously unreachable by the network can now be reached due to the solution’s new record.
