Schalke have appointed Thomas Reis as their new head coach, with a contract until 2024. The manager will be earning a salary worth €1.6 million per season, and the appointment has been confirmed by the Bundesliga side.
Former manager Frank Kramer was dismissed on the back of a very disappointing start to the season, which has seen the club rooted to the bottom of the table. If they continue with the form they are on, they are bound to slip back into the second tier of Germany following relegation.
Thomas Reis appointed as new Schalke coach
“I am enormously happy to now be a part of FC Schalke 04. Conversations went really well from the very first minute. With their promotion last season, Schalke have begun an unbelievable success story that we want to add another chapter to by staying in the Bundesliga. It is without question a big challenge, but I am absolutely convinced that we have the necessary quality in the squad to achieve this key goal together,” the new head coach told Schalke’s official website.
Once regulars in the Champions League, Die Knappen have struggled particularly after losing Gazprom as their sponsors. A debt of €17 million has also not allowed them to spend a lot in the transfer window. And it now remains to be seen whether Thomas Reis can motivate the team to survive the drop this year.
