Thomas Muller is set to be recalled to the German national team this summer, as reported by BILD in Germany. Euro 2020 is set to be the spectacle of the summer, and for Germany national team coach Joachim Low, it will be the final tournament in an illustrious career with der Mannschaft.Â
Calls for Muller to return to the national team rose steeply following his resurgence under Hansi Flick. The German ended last season with the most number of assists in the continent and has continued to impress this season.Â
Low’s reliance on youth has ruled out the more experienced players of the German national team. But that could change if Muller returns to the Euro 2020 squad. The last time the Bayern Munich forward featured for Germany was in the 2018 Nations League.
Low himself hasn’t commented on the matter yet but is expected to announce the squad list on 19th May. The tournament begins on 11 June, and Germany face World Cup winners France in their first match of the competition on 15th June.Â
Muller has featured in almost every Bundesliga match for Bayern Munich this season and has racked up 17 assists in the league this season. The 31-year-old has become a prolific creative midfielder, and still retains his ability to finish chances well. That is shown well by his 11 goals in the league along with the assists.Â
Having been a part of the squad under Low, Muller has a great understanding of his philosophy, and could help the coach to his final piece of silverware in his farewell tournament.
