Honor is now preparing to launch a new foldable phone, the Honor Magic V2, which is anticipated to have the thinnest build to date. The unveiling will take place on July 12 in China, followed by a global launch later in 2023. Prior to its release, here is all the known information about this smartphone. Let’s take a closer look.
All About the Honor Magic V2
Foldable smartphones are gradually becoming more mainstream. However, apart from their expensive pricing, one factor that deters many consumers from choosing foldable phones is their bulky and heavy construction. Samsung’s early Z Fold models, as well as the upcoming Z Fold 5, are notably thicker compared to regular phones. In contrast, Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Huawei have introduced sleeker models, with Huawei’s Mate X3 boasting an impressive thickness of 5.3mm and weighing just 239 grams.
Recognizing the importance of slimness in the appeal of foldable, Honor acknowledges that the Magic V2 will be even thinner than the current slimmest foldable phone available on the market. While no design images have been released, the company has provided some hints through a teaser poster. The image shows the outer screen of the V2 with the phone app displayed, featuring a slightly curved edge similar to the Honor Magic Vs.
The teaser also juxtaposes the foldable with an older iPhone model featuring a home button, as well as a feature phone, likely to demonstrate the slimness of the foldable by comparison. From the teaser, the device appears quite slim, but precise dimensions will have to wait until the launch.
Details about the display specifications remain uncertain. However, according to preliminary information from GSMArena, the Honor V2 is expected to feature a 7.9-inch foldable LTPO OLED display, potentially incorporating LTPO technology for a better refresh rate. Similar to the Magic Vs, the smartphone is likely to utilize a gearless hinge, minimizing the visibility of creases on the display.
A slim design is not the only highlight of the Magic V2, as it is also expected to come equipped with cutting-edge hardware. The device will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, although rumors suggest the existence of a more powerful variant called the Magic V2 Supreme Edition, which could feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The device might offer 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.
Information regarding the camera specifications is currently unknown, but it is anticipated to include a periscope zoom lens and a primary sensor of 54MP, possibly the Sony IMX800, on the rear. In terms of software, the Magic V2 will operate on Magic OS 7, which is built on the foundation of Android 13.
Considering its slim size, the Magic V2 may feature a smaller battery compared to the Magic Vs, which boasts a 5,000mAh capacity. However, it is expected to support wireless charging and 66W wired charging. Additionally, it may offer dual SIM support, 5G connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2, GNSS, NFC, and a USB-C port.
As for pricing, there have been no leaks regarding the cost of the Magic V2 yet. However, it is anticipated to be more expensive than the Magic Vs but potentially less expensive than the original Magic V. To provide a rough estimate, the Honor V starts at $1397 for the 12GB/256GB model and $1924 for the 12GB/512GB model. On the other hand, the Honor Vs is priced at $1050 for the 8GB/128GB model and $1200 for the 12GB/256GB model.
