Looks like the New Year’s Day thriller habit is changing. Filming has finished on **The Woods**, Netflix’s British adaptation of [Harlan Coben’s](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlan_Coben) 2007 novel, but it won’t be the January 1 release fans have come to expect. That slot now belongs to Jamie Dornan’s *The Twin*.

## Filming Wraps After Six Months

Cameras began rolling on April 28 in Bolton and then moved around Greater Manchester and the North West. Michelle Keegan confirmed her final day on set on October 10 with an Instagram Story captioned “Last day on The Woods.” Actor Harry Goodson-Bevan also confirmed the wrap on Instagram. The final scenes were shot around Bolton, in the car park and woodland near Smithills Estate.

## What Is The Woods About?

The eight-part series stars **Tom Bateman** as barrister Paul “Cope” Copeland. Twenty years ago, Cope’s sister Camille vanished from a summer camp in the woods. When the body of a man believed to have died alongside her surfaces, Cope suspects she may have survived. He reunites with his first love, **Lucy (Michelle Keegan)**, to uncover two decades of lies.

The cast also includes Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, James Buckley, Rade Sherbedgia, Tom Allen, Shannon Watson, Pamela Nomvete and Kerry Howard, with Tracy-Ann Oberman returning as Jessica Kinberg. Danny Brocklehurst is lead writer, as on earlier Coben hits.

## Why Not New Year’s Day?

A new British Coben thriller has landed on January 1 for the past three years, starting with *Fool Me Once* in 2024. This time, Netflix has given January 1, 2027 to *The Twin*, a six-part crime noir with Jamie Dornan and Mackenzie Davis. That series was filmed in 2024 and is ready to go, while *The Woods* would have had under 12 weeks for editing, scoring and marketing.
