### Why This Is Such a Big Deal

*Jujutsu Kaisen* is an adaptation of the manga by Gege Akutami, and by December 2025, the manga had sold over 150 million copies — up from 80 million in July 2023. That’s not just a popular manga. That’s a generational phenomenon.

The anime is produced by MAPPA, a Nakano-based studio that recently signed a strategic partnership with Netflix, promising to deliver brand-new projects and for Netflix to exclusively stream titles from the MAPPA slate. ### The Two Arcs of Season 2 — Explained

Season 2 is split into two distinct arcs, and both are exceptional for completely different reasons.

#### Arc 1: Hidden Inventory Arc

Set in 2006, best friends Satoru Gojo and Suguru Getou are inseparable special-grade sorcerers whose confidence, abilities, and morals are tested when they are tasked with delivering a girl named Riko Amanai to complete a ritual that protects humanity from the jujutsu world. This arc is essentially the origin story of the most powerful sorcerer alive — a younger, more vulnerable Gojo before he became the untouchable legend fans know. Emotional, stylish, and beautifully animated.

#### Arc 2: Shibuya Incident Arc

This is the one everyone talks about. Twelve years later, high-level curses — now self-aware and united — pursue a single goal: eradicating humanity and creating a world of cursed energy users. Their opening move is an orchestrated attack on Shibuya Station, forcing the sorcerers to defend innocent civilians in a battle of apocalyptic scale. The Shibuya Incident is widely considered one of the most emotionally devastating arcs in modern anime. Expect jaw-dropping animation from MAPPA, impossible choices, and at least one scene that will leave you staring at your ceiling at 2 AM.

### Netflix’s Growing Anime Ambitions

Outside of Asia, Crunchyroll holds the worldwide license to stream *Jujutsu Kaisen*, meaning Netflix has to wait a period after the anime streams on Crunchyroll before it can license it for its library. [whats-on-netflix](https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/anime/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-netflix-release/) That delay is frustrating, but it also means Netflix subscribers get the full season in one clean drop — perfect for binge-watching.
