The Women’s Premier League WPL 2023 auction was held on February 13, in Mumbai, with five franchises – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz – in attendance. 449 players were up for grabs, with each team having a budget of INR 12 crore and a maximum of 90 slots available in the auction.

The WPL 2023 auction saw some historic moments, including Smriti Mandhana becoming the first player ever to be auctioned in the WPL’s history. She was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.4 crore.

The Gujarat Giants had a strong lineup, with some of the biggest names in women’s cricket being part of their squad. Meg Lanning was the most expensive player in the franchises, going for INR 3 crore, while Alyssa Healy and Elysse Perry were also part of the squad, going for INR 2.5 crore and INR 2.7 crore respectively. Other notable players in the franchise include Radha Yadav, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma.

Meanwhile, the UP Warriorz had a balanced squad, with a mix of established stars and up-and-coming talent. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur were two of the biggest names in the franchise, going for INR 2.6 crore and INR 2.5 crore respectively. Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr were also part of the franchise, going for INR 1.8 crore and INR 1.5 crore respectively. Other notable players in the squad include Nat Sciver, Anuja Patil, and Tanya Bhatia.

Similarly, Mumbai Indians had a strong batting lineup, with some of the best batswomen in the world being part of their squad. The franchise went all out to get Deandra Dottin, who was one of the most expensive players in the auction, going for INR 3.2 crore. Other notable players in the franchise include Jemimah Rodrigues, who went for INR 1.8 crore, and Elysse Perry, who went for INR 2.6 crore.

The Delhi Capitals had a well-rounded squad, with a mix of experienced players and young talent. Alyssa Healy was one of the biggest names in the franchise, going for INR 2.8 crore. Other notable players in the franchise include Radha Yadav, who went for INR 1.2 crore, and Shafali Verma, who went for INR 1.5 crore. The franchise also made some smart buys with the likes of Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Pooja Vastrakar going for INR 70 lakh and INR 80 lakh respectively.
