Netflix has dropped a new trailer for ‘The Swimmers. The director of the film is Egyptian-Welsh director Saly. El Hosaini’s movie the Swimmers. The tale revolves around two teenage sisters who have fled Damascus at the time of the Syrian civil war with the hopes o compete at the 2016 Rio Olympics.  

The Swimmers started at the Toronto International Film Festival this year. The film features Lebanese actresses with her real-life sisters, Nathalie and Manal Issa like Yusra and Sarah Mardini 

The Mardini sisters have made those international headlines while the overcrowded dinghy they boarded from Turkey broke down on the way to Greece. The challenging facts are they and the two others had to sim over three hours in open water for keeping it from capsizing.

Apart from Toronto, The Swimmers also revealed the Zurich Film Festival in September with El Hosaini  said, “Never has there been such an important time for Europeans to see a film that elevates the visibility of refugees and honors those who risk their lives to have  a better, safer life.” 

The tale of The Swimmers was co-written by El Husaini and British screenwriter jack Throne. We will also see Syrian actress Kinda Alloush, German actor Matthias Schweighofer with British actor James Floyd set to enjoy the Mena region premiere on the opening night of the 44th Cairo International Film Festival that runs from 13th November to 22nd November. 

In a statement dropped by the festival, El Hosaini told, “It’s an honor to have our Middle East premiere at Cairo International Film Festival.” also added, “I’m thrilled to be returning to Cairo, the city of my childhood, to share the inspirational, true-life story of the Mardini sisters”. Before all the things Toronto screenings, El Hosaini has been honored with the festival’s Emerging Talent Award told, “ a real labor of love.” 

She said, “So much love poured into it. Sleepless nights, sweat, and tears and it’s such an honor to share it with you.” 

 Also added, “And it really shows what this city and festival stands for, in giving a film like this such an incredible platform.” 

The Swimmers: Release Date 

Netflix has confirmed that the film will be available on 23rd November 2022.
