## Why It’s a Big Deal?

The film became the first billion-dollar movie of 2026 and the highest-grossing film of the year. That’s a huge result for a sequel arriving just three years after the original. Talks of a third film and a Donkey Kong spin-off are also in the air, per Entertainment Now. [collider](https://collider.com/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-netflix-streaming-release-date/)

## What to Expect On Screen?

The story takes Mario into space. New faces include Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. Donald Glover voices Yoshi, and Glen Powell voices Fox McCloud in a Star Fox crossover. Reviews were mixed. Variety called it a frenetic sequel built on video-game Easter eggs, so lower your expectations for story and raise them for fun.
