The starting date of 2021-22 season: Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1

After the international tournaments, Euro 2020 and Copa America 2021 ended with Italy and Argentina winning the trophies respectively, we now shift our focus to club football. The 2021-22 season is almost upon us as the clubs are signing new players and finalizing their plans for the upcoming season.

All the football fans are now eagerly waiting for their favourite clubs to return back to action. So here we take a look at the start date of the 2021-22 season in each of the top 5 European Leagues.

Premier League

The English top-flight league is set to resume on 13th August with newly-promoted Brentford hosting Arsenal. It will be followed by current Premier League Champions Manchester City playing against Tottenham, while Manchester United take on Leeds United. Reigning Champions League title holders Chelsea will start their season at home to Crystal Palace and Liverpool will visit Norwich City.

La Liga

The Spanish league is all set to start the 2021-22 season on 13th August with Valencia taking on Getafe. Atletico Madrid will play away from home against Celta Vigo, while Barcelona will face a tricky home opener against Real Sociedad. Real Madrid will face Alaves and Sevilla will host newcomers Rayo Vallecano.

Serie A

The Italian league is yet to confirm the exact dates of the opening matchday, but it will start on the weekend of 21st August. Inter will start their campaign under new manager Simone Inzaghi at home to Genoa, while AC Milan will host Sampdoria. The biggest fixture of the opening matchday will see Jose Mourinho his career as Roma boss at home to Fiorentina. Meanwhile, Juventus and Atalanta will play Udinese and Torino respectively.

Bundesliga

The German league will kick off the 2021-22 season on 13th August with reigning champions Bayern Munich travelling to Borussia Monchengladbach. Borussia Dortmund will host Eintracht Frankfurt, which will arguably be the biggest match of the opening weekend. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg will host Bochum and RB Leipzig will play against Mainz.

Ligue 1

The French league is the first one to start the 2021-22 season as they resume on 8th August with Rennes taking on Lens. Paris Saint-Germain will play against Troyes, Lille will face Metz while Lyon will play Brest.
