The real reason why 17-year-old Gavi plays with his shoelaces untied

Barcelona’s Gavi is in the headlines as one of the most exciting young players in the world right now. He has been called up to the Spanish national team despite being only 17 years old, and has started four times for Luis Enrique. 

The midfielder is now one of the starting players under Barca manager Xavi. He has played 22 games across all competitions for the club this season and has started games regularly in recent weeks. 

His performances on the pitch are brilliant by all standards, which has left people all across the world wondering how he’s only 17 years old. They have also picked up on the fact that his shoelaces are untied when he plays. So, why does Gavi play with untied shoelaces? 

The real reason why Gavi plays with untied shoes 

There has been a lot of speculation as to why he plays without tying his laces.

Some have said it is because of superstition since there is no shortage of them in football. 

But, the truth is that Gavi does not know how to tie his shoelaces at all. 

“Gavi has been playing with his laces untied since he was very young, it’s because he doesn’t know how to tie them well,” Spanish journalist Marc Marba Prats revealed on Twitter.

“He doesn’t care and he plays like that.” 

Barcelona recognises the unbelievable potential that their current number 30 has, and are close to tying him down to a new deal. The La Masia graduate loves the club and is certainly part of an incredible future at Camp Nou.
