The next major update of Cyberpunk 2077 is to arrive in the first quarter of 2022

CD Projekt Red announced in October that the PS5 and Xbox Series X-S versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will be postponed until the first quarter of 2022. A week later, it delayed all “updates, upgrades, and free DLCs” for Cyberpunk 2077 until 2022 as well. It has now limited that timetable slightly, stating in its most recent financial report that the next big upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 would likewise arrive somewhere in the first three months of 2022, coinciding with the release of the next-generation version.

“We are hard at work on the next-gen version of Cyberpunk, scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2022, alongside another major update for all platforms,” CD Projekt president and joint CEO Adam Kiciński said in a statement. “There is also ongoing work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 and the Cyberpunk expansion.”

Interestingly, despite Cyberpunk 2077’s well-publicized problems and the glacial rate with which they are being addressed, Kiciski stated that CD Projekt’s quarterly revenues were up nearly 40% year on year, hitting 144 million PLN ($34.7 million). Profits were decreased year over year for the same time, owing mostly to “expenses connected to upgrading Cyberpunk and exploratory work on new projects.”

That income increase is intriguing to watch. The release of Cyberpunk 2077 a year ago was a train catastrophe, and expectations that CD Projekt would rapidly turn things around were dashed. Despite these issues, interest in the game has remained high.

It shot to the top of the charts when it was finally allowed back on the PlayStation Store, despite Sony’s warning that there were still major issues with it, and as we noted over the weekend, it also topped the Steam sale charts, and there’s been a big spike in positive user reviews following a 50% discount: Since the Steam Autumn Sale went live on November 24, more than 18,000 nice reviews have been written.

Of course, Cyberpunk 2077 is already a huge success, with over 13.7 million copies sold in 2020 alone.
